Weight control
Controlling your own body weight is mostly a psychological challenge and one that Australians are currently struggling with more than any other developed nation. One of the main reasons for this "obesity epidemic" is well marketed "get thin quick" diets and schemes.
Psychologically every time you try and fail at another of these "band aids" your motivation and self esteem take a hit. Little did you know that it was the diet, pill or potion that was failing you and not the other way around.
The majority of weight loss products on the market have no scientific evidence whatsoever. Or if they do this evidence was funded by the pharmaceutical companies that then make a fortune from selling their latest weight control drug.
There is only one real way control your weight and that is to learn how.
Yes, that’s correct...learn the skills (and they are skills) of how to change your lifestyle to one that's healthier. All of the factors that currently exist (or you think exist) that are stopping you from doing this on your own are psychological:
- Motivation (It's too hard)
- Body Image (I'm too scared)
- Myths (It's too expensive)
- Thoughts (It's impossible for me to lose weight)
- Time (There's not enough time)
It's not surprising that sport psychologists, who help people with all of the above and more, can be highly effective in helping those that struggle with their weight.
